Christmas is Here!

The festive spirit has well and truly hit here at Beth Hicks Photography HQ and for the first time ever, I made a Christmas wreath, and did a Christmas “mini” shoot for a friend.

It’s safe to say these will be returning next year, and I’ve had a few other people ask if they could have some with their horse this year!

The process

The first step for any wreath photo is to make the wreath. So I bought some ribbon, pine garlands, and string lights from Hobbycraft, got some decorations from my local garden centre, and started creating the wreath. Making the Christmas wreath didn’t take too long, it was just a case of joining the garlands, wrapping the lights around the wreath, securing them (and the battery pack) and then adding the decorations. In total this didn’t take much more than an hour, and the joy of doing it this way is that I can keep the wreath year on year, and just change the decorations as I see fit!

The photoshoot

These photos were taken with my friends Shire horse, Alfie. He’s only 2 years old but was such a good boy and not phased by the wreath at all. In fact, he was so unconcerned, he even tried to eat it! For these photos we used my classic black background set up, which is a stable or field shelter, and getting the horse to stand at the front so it is lighter in front, than it is behind! I’m personally thrilled with how these photos turned out!

That’s it for now…

And that is (nearly) it for Christmas photos in 2023. I’ll be doing a few extra wreath photos with friends (which I will share once done) but I won’t be taking any bookings for these this year…

However, I am offering a little Christmas photoshoot special. For this, all you need to do is book an all-inclusive photoshoot (£650) between now and the 24th December (it just has to be booked within this time period; the shoot can take place in 2024), or buy a voucher for an all-inclusive photoshoot, and you will also get a 16” x 16” framed print as a special gift! To book, just email beth@bethlhicks.com or use the contact form below!
